Community Cafe 101 (Denver, CO)
One World Everybody Eat's Community Cafe 101 is open to anyone looking to start a pay-what-you-can cafe or learn more about our nonprofit model. Pay-what-you-can restaurants are not exempt from the same challenges of traditional restaurants. We have found non-profit restaurants in our network are 25% more successful than traditional restaurants. And active cafes in our network have an even higher rate of success. The purpose of this two-day training is to provide detailed information about the fundamentals of an Everybody Eats Cafe; help you think through application in your own community; and provide results data of existing cafes. We will provide lecture instruction, group activities, and hands-on training inside one of our One World Everybody Eats Cafes: SAME Cafe. All with the goal to better equip you for the mission you are about to embark on and better prepare you for success. About the Instructors Brad and Libby Birky opened S.A.M.E. Cafe (So All May Eat) in Denver, Colorado in October 2006. The couple wanted to combine their experiences into a place that offered amazing food, a commitment to service, and a place to broaden one’s view of the world. Today, the cafe is the longest running One World Everybody Eats cafe, and is the flagship of longevity for a nonprofit cafe. In 2017, Brad and Libby sucessfully transitioned leadership of the daily operations to Brad Reubendale (Executive Director), and Chef Letisha Steele (Operations Manager). And today, Brad and Libby continue to play an active role amongst community cafe operators.
