NPM Course on Wetland/Riparian Plants - Tuesdays, 7/23, 7/30, 8/13; 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Tuesday, July 23, 2019, 8:30 AM

Take a Native Plant Master® course at this multifaceted riverside park with streamside plant communities.  Explore South Platte Park along the South Platte River as you learn.  This course will help you build confidence with some of the unique technical terms and where to focus on ID groups like sedges and rushes, help you differentiating our similar cottonwoods and willows and will look at how to select native shrubs for restoration work or manage noxious weeks that affect wetlands.  During the three outdoor field sessions, you will learn common and scientific names, ecological relationships and human uses of 40 - 50 plants.  You will also develop skills in using family features and a botanical key to identify plants.  Course includes special emphasis on natives useful for landscaping and alien invasives that threaten native ecosystems.  Trainer:  Skot Latona is the Supervisor of South Platte Park and a Certified Interpretive Guide and Trainer. He has worked at South Platte Park since 1998.  Beth Hanson served as the Education Manager at Hudson Gardens and has been a Naturalist at South Platte since 2005.
